Safeguards are lifeguards

Our blog about accidents with a common thread is unintentionally very topical. Yesterday, we were contacted as a result of the investigation into a fatal workplace accident earlier this week. It seems that the lack of machine guards cost a young man of 21 his life. Such safeguards, or rather the lack of them, unfortunately, cost lives more often.

It reminded us of this video from a fatal workplace accident investigator.

Different situation from the one Seekurico is investigating but an equally dramatic outcome. In this video, Daniel Marcoux gives a clear insight into the factors that led to the loss of human life.
This machine also had no machine guard, so catapulted wood hit the female worker full-on. But... what else did you see?

Right: the employee had to feed the planks in a position that was ergonomically anything but ideal for her. The shelves were not sorted according to thickness, so the guides were not precisely adjusted, which made feeding difficult. The pace of work was high. Did this all lead to the woman positioning herself in front of the machine instead of beside it? In any case, there was no machine guarding there. You saw for yourself the risk she was exposed to.

There are dozens of videos about the so-called kickback in sawing alone, not to mention images of sawing accidents. We deliberately do not share them, and not only because of their horror content.

When you organise training courses on machine safety, you don't need sensation. They provide some "fireworks" that distract your audience from the objective: to think about ALL possible threats when working with this machine.

We regularly give and support a wide range of safety training courses in companies and cultural institutions. Choosing the most appropriate didactic material is custom work. Seekurico is happy to help you on your way if you want to get more out of your planned training.

Have you already thought about the safeguards around the installations in the company where you work? Well done!

Be sure to let us know what practical objections have prevented the installation until now. Chances are that our machine safety experts will find a solution together with you. Please don't expose your employees to avoidable danger one day longer.
